Martin Palmer and Katriana Hazell

Encounters with exiles and outsiders

Foreword by Gordon Brown

The Alliance of Religions and Conservation (ARC) has commissioned amongst others the brilliant young writer, Emma Geen, to write many of the stories from a contemporary perspective with humour and wit. From the scriptural and the historical to folk tales and modern stories too, this collection will be a resource for reflection, ideal for storytelling groups, for drama, art, and poetry and a unique educational tool as well. Sitting alongside Sylvia Woodcock-Clarke’s raw and powerful illustrations, this is a book to remind readers of the centrality of the stranger in their traditions, thereby creating a more compassionate world.

ARC (Alliance of Religions and Conservation) is a secular body that helps the major religions of the world to develop their own environmental programmes, based on their own core teachings, beliefs and practices. They help the religions link with key environmental organisations—creating powerful alliances between faith communities and conservation groups. ARC was founded in 1995 by HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and now work with 11 major faiths through the key traditions within each one.
